Paulinho da Viola is the program’s honoree Samba in Gamboa which TV Brasil airs this Sunday (9), at 1pm. the musician and composer turns 82 next Wednesday, November 12th.
To celebrate the work of Paulinho da Viola, samba singer Teresa Cristina welcomes singer and composer Alfredo Del-Penho, an artist from the so-called “Geração Lapa”, which emerged in the 1990s in the bohemian neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro and characterized by the revitalization of samba in the city.
Paulinho da Viola is one of the greatest representatives of national samba. In addition to being a singer, the artist is a multi-instrumentalist and choro composer. Paulinho also maintains a special relationship with carnival, as he is a stronghold of Portela and a member of the school’s Velha Guarda.
During the unprecedented program, Teresa Cristina talks about Paulinho as one of her greatest inspirations. In the chat, she and Alfredo Del-Penho highlight the musician’s relevance to Brazilian culture. Between one conversation and another, Teresa Cristina and Alfredo sing compositions by Paulinho that became hits in his voice and that of other performers.

Alfredo Del-Penho
In his 25-year career, Alfredo Del-Penho has released more than ten albums as a producer or performer and is considered one of the great names in contemporary samba.
Del-Penho accumulates partnerships with names such as Nei Lopes and Chico César, having already been nominated for a Latin Grammy and twice winning the Brazilian Music Award. For his work as musical director and composer of original scores, he received around ten awards, including the Shell for best song in 2018.
Production history
THE Samba in Gamboa brings together great performers from the new generations and renowned names in the genre and icons of MPB for a lively samba circle. With Diogo Nogueira, the program had seven seasons and was recorded between 2008 and 2018. To this day, the attraction is part of the public channel’s schedule.
