The renowned group Amazonas Band is the attraction of the musical track that TV Brazil airs this Saturday (14), at 11:15 pm. Produced by the affiliate TV Encontro das Águas, the show recorded at Teatro Amazonas marks the beginning of ticket sales for the Amazonas Green Jazz Festival, an event that will transform Manaus into the jazz capital of the world in July.
Created in 2000 with the mission of spreading popular instrumental music in the state of Amazonas, Amazonas Band is a reference in the country for having great instrumentalists in its team. Conducted by conductor Rui Carvalho, the orchestra has performed regularly both in the capital and in the countryside.
In 2009 and 2012, the group recorded two live CDs at Teatro Amazonas in different editions of the jazz festival: Amazonas Jazz with Vinícius Dorin and Amazonas Band invites Gilson Peranzzetta and Mauro Senise.
Saturday’s performance at TV Brazil brings the big band performing a repertoire of songs by artists confirmed at this year’s Amazonas Green Jazz Festival, in addition to compositions that marked past editions of the event.
Among the selected works are: out of tune (Tom Jobim and Newton Mendonça, arranged by Frank Mantooth); The Hill Has No Time (Favela)(Tom Jobim and Vinícius De Moraes, arranged by conductor Rui Carvalho); dindi (Tom Jobim and Aloysio De Oliveira, arranged by Rui Carvalho); Techno Pop (Bob Mintzer); Pass Line (João Bosco and Aldir Blanc, arranged by Gilson Peranzzetta); Latin Import (John Fedchock, American trombonist and arranger confirmed for this year’s festival); and some skunk funk (Randy Brecker, American trumpeter, flugelhornist and composer, one of the attractions of the upcoming Amazonas Green Jazz Festival).
