THE Brazilian Communications Company (EBC) prepares a broad operation to broadcast live, next Sunday (12), the Círio de Nazaré, directly from Belém (PA). THE coverage will involve three fronts: TV Brasil, in partnership with TV Cultura do Pará, a broadcaster that is part of the National Public Communication Network (RNCP); Canal Gov, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism; and TV Brasil Internacional, which will replicate the broadcast to increase the global visibility of the event.
Recognized as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Brazil by Iphan and a World Heritage Site by Unesco, the Círio is one of the largest religious manifestations in the world, bringing together millions of believers in a procession through the streets of Belém. The tradition, which began in 1793, is a landmark of Amazonian culture and Brazilian religious tourism.
From 7 am to 8 am, TV Brasil broadcasts the beginning of the procession. In addition to monitoring the route in real time, the program will feature interviews carried out in a panoramic studio, reports on the symbols and traditions of the Círio and live musical performances. Coverage returns at 12pm with the arrival of the pilgrim image at the Basilica Sanctuary of Our Lady of Nazareth, one of the culminating points of the celebration.
Canal Gov and TV Brasil Internacional will show a special program directly from Casa do Turismo, lasting 2h30, presenting the procession in real time, interviews with authorities and content about religious tourism and Pará culture.
“The Círio is a religious tradition embedded in the history of Belém and for us at EBC it is a source of pride to be able to once again broadcast this genuine manifestation of popular culture, in partnership with TV Cultura do Pará and the Ministry of Tourism, fulfilling one of the missions stipulated in our creation law, which is to give national visibility to the country’s cultural and regional diversity”, states the General Director of EBC, Bráulio Ribeiro.
The broadcast will also highlight the importance of religious tourism in Brazil, a segment that generates around R$15 billion per year, according to data from the Ministry of Tourism. In 2025, Círio gains even more international relevance as it takes place in the same year that Belém will host COP30, the global conference on climate change.
