Turpial, the fourth airline that reaches the border from the airport reactivation

The air port lasted more than 11 years closed for commercial flights. Turpial is scheduled to start operations on October 6 with the San Antonio-Valencia route

On Monday, September 15, the Cipriano Castro International Airport, located in the city of San Antonio del Táchira, turned two years after being reactivated for commercial flights, after staying more than 11 years closed.

With an Embraer 190 airplane from Conviasa, with an approximate of 50 passengers on board, the track was reopened on September 15, 2023 for commercial flights. Then they adhered rutaca and stellar.

At present, the air port has 24 frequencies: Rutaca flies on Mondays and Fridays to Barquisimeto, during the morning, while for Valencia it has frequencies on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, at 10:30 am for Caracas, it has flight on Tuesdays, Wednesday, Thursday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, in evening hours.

Meanwhile, star flies from Monday to Sunday, at various times. To porlamar it has a frequency on Saturdays at 4:30 pm

Around the state airline, it flies to Barquisimeto on Sundays (9:10 am) and Valencia on Tuesdays (8:50 am). For Caracas, leave on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8:50 am, and on Sundays at 5:00 pm

Sources consulted by La Nación newspaper They stressed that the airport is enabled until 10:00 pm, which allows it to have night flights if any airline wishes, as the beacon was installed in July 2024.

It is planned that Turpial start operations on October 6 with the San Antonio-Valencia routevice versa, Mondays (morning) and Fridays (evening), thus becoming the fourth airline with border operations.

At present, approximately 3,500 weekly users are being mobilized by this airport.

Pending debts

The perimeter mesh, which in several sections is totally falling, is one of the pending debts, since the track of the International Airport leaves vulnerable.

The controversial point in these 24 months has been the change of name of the airport, which went from “Juan Vicente Gómez” to “Cipriano Castro”, causing rejection in most border inhabitants.

The turn was executed in Official Gazette 42,724, dated September 28, 2023, and was formalized in an act led by Governor Freddy Bernal, on November 22, by revealing the Bust of Castro.
