Turkish worker dies injured in accident at floating power plant in Havana

SAN LUIS POTOSÍ, Mexico.- A Turkish worker who was injured last week in the accident at the KPS-57 floating power plant, located in the Bay of Havana, died.

According to what Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel announced on his social networks this Thursday, Halil Karadeniz, a worker for the Turkish company Karen, died after being hospitalized for a week.

“We have just been confirmed that Halil Karadeniz, a worker for the Turkish company Karen, who had been injured in the accident at the electricity generation plant in Havana, died. Our condolences to his family, co-workers and the Government of Türkiye,” he expressed on his X account.

Behind him accident at the Turkish floating power plant, eight workers were injured. Five of the eight injured were Turkish and were admitted to the Hermanos Ameijeiras Clinical Surgical Hospital.

Of them, three had burns of between 20 and 40%, so their condition was “critical to extremely critical,” while the other two patients were reported “for care,” Dr. Fernando Trujillo Sánchez told the regime’s press. national director of Hospital Services of the Ministry of Public Health.

Dr. Trujillo Sánchez then explained that the burns were serious: “We are talking about three patients with about 40%, 30% and 20% burns, respectively.”

He sixth Turkish worker who remained hospitalized with them had already been discharged, he said.

“All accident victims receive care from a multidisciplinary team, taking into account the complexities involved in burn injuries, not only from the area of ​​caumatology,” commented Miguel Estévez del Toro, general director of the Hermanos Ameijeiras Hospital.

On the other hand, the two injured Cuban workers were treated at the Calixto García Clinical Surgical Hospital, and both had trauma.

One of them was discharged from hospital while the other was still hospitalized after having undergone surgery last Friday for an injury to the thigh area.

The incident occurred while welding work was being carried out on the lake, as confirmed by the state Electric Company. The Minister of Energy and Mines, Vicente de la O Levy, reported on social networks that the fire was quickly controlled and the injured workers were being treated by medical personnel.

According to the information revealed in the X account of Jair Morales Rodríguez, vice head of the Economic Department of the Central Committee of the PCC, the accident occurred in a floating power plant which is not used for electricity generation but is used as “shelter and logistics” for the company Turkish Karen.
