With the aim of preserving the identity, symbolism and history of one of the most representative dances of the Mantaro Valley, the tunantero code of the Tunantada de Yauyos – Jauja was officially presented, an instrument that seeks to protect this cultural expression declared Cultural Heritage of the Nation.
The initiative was promoted by the National Federation of Tunantera Associations of January 20 (Fendat), with inter-institutional support from the Provincial Municipality of Huancayo, and arises in response to the constant aesthetic distortions and loss of traditional references that the Tunantada has faced in recent years.
The code establishes guidelines for the correct representation of the dance, understood as a satirical, parodic and identity expression of the Shawsha people, without imposing rigid restrictions. Its promoters specified that it is a tool for cultural defense and not a sanctioning regulation.
During the presentation, the municipal manager of the MPH, Jhoselim Meza León, highlighted the importance of strengthening regional identity and promoting cultural tourism in Junín, highlighting that the preservation of traditions benefits the entire region.
The document is the result of collective work that began in May 2025, with the participation of 93 farmers belonging to 31 tunantero associations, as well as technical specialists. The code contains 225 articles distributed in 12 chapters, which address historical, symbolic and stylistic aspects of dance.
