A few days before the start of the bullfighting festival in Jauja, tourist expectations are growing, but with it also the risk of scams. Manuel Nieto, representative of the Association of Tourism Entrepreneurs of the Central Region, warned that informal groups attract visitors through social networks such as TikTok and Facebook.
COMPLAINT
Nieto denounced the appearance of “pseudo travel groups” that offer three-day packages for ridiculous amounts of between 100 and 150 soles from Lima.
These services, which tend to go viral, do not have the National Registry of Tourist Service Providers, do not issue receipts and do not guarantee the safety of the visitor.
“You have to be very careful. Last year it was seen that these groups of travelers threaten the safety of visitors; they abandon tourists in hotels or restaurants without complying with what is offered”said the representative.
TIPS
The representative of the tour operators explained that a formal service must meet minimum requirements. Among them, that the guide has a valid Mincetur card and that the transport has a purple tourist service plate, specialized SOAT and up-to-date technical inspection.
INSPECTION
Mincetur, Indecopi, the Prosecutor’s Office, the MTC and the PNP of Tourism are called to supervise this new and viral type of tourist informality.
