Tumultuous queues at CADECA during the third day of currency sales in Cuba

MIAMI, United States.- The third day of currency sales in Cuba was marked by something that Cubans have had to adapt to throughout the Castro period: queues. Images recorded by CubaNet at CADECA on 23rd and J this Thursday morning show the crowds and discussions between Cubans.

According to eyewitnesses, each person could buy only 100 dollars, as the government had warned this week when announcing the measure.

The recording shows a fight between those present, which, according to those present, had started because there were two queues, one of the people who arrived in the morning and another of the people who were marking from the previous day in the afternoon. .

In the images of the queue, which had police agents as organizers, several Cubans are seen shouting, some explaining who is after whom, and even a repressive agent struggling with one of the people present, who they end up taking away of the place.

Cubans who want to buy foreign currency from the island’s regime will only be able to acquire up to 100 dollars per transaction, or its equivalent in other currencies, officials of the Cuban regime reported in the Mesa Redonda space.

This Monday the island authorities announced that the sale of foreign currency to the population would begin throughout the country, and according to the president of the Central Bank of Cuba (BCC), Marta Sabina Wilson González, the limit of 100 dollars was established to satisfy the existing demand.

Wilson González also warned that not all entities in charge of selling foreign currency would have these available.

“For example, since the dollar is not the currency that has been captured the most, it is not always the currency that can be in existence in the CADECAs,” said the official.

In the case of the CADECAs, the minister president of the BCC made it clear that the sale will only be made in cash “because they are the conditions that it has to carry out that operation.”
