Tulio Ramírez resigns from the position of substitute rector of the CNE

On December 4, the Minister of the Interior, Justice and Peace, Diosdado Cabello, threatened the substitute rectors Tulio Ramírez and Ana Julia Niño with “operation tuntún” for allegedly participating in the swearing-in of Edmundo González Urrutia.


The lawyer, university professor and substitute rector of the National Electoral Council (CNE) Tulio Ramírez reported on the afternoon of Saturday, December 14, through his account in X, that he resigned from his position in the electoral body.

“I clarify, given the unfounded statements about my alleged participation in acts of proclamation, I must inform that due to my resignation from the CNE as an unincorporated Alternate Rector, I do not have any authority to carry out that alleged proclamation,” Ramírez wrote.

On December 4, the Minister of the Interior, Justice and Peace, Diosdado Cabello, threatened the substitute rectors with “operation tuntún”, a euphemism for talking about arrests. Thulium Ramírez and Ana Julia Niño for allegedly participating in the swearing-in of Edmundo González Urrutia.

Two days later, Ramírez responded to the minister’s threats: “Surprised by the threats. I am a substitute Rector, not incorporated into the CNE. Since December 2023 I have not had contact with any rector and it is not among my plans to leave the country, much less execute actions over which I do not have any type of competence,” he assured on his social networks.

According to Cabello, former CNE rector Juan Carlos Delpino, who left the country after the presidential elections, would also participate in this alleged action.
