Ministers of the Superior Court of Electoral Justice (TSJE) guaranteed that the internal party elections on December 18 will be held simultaneously for all political parties and movements, and they will be held with the voting machines.
After the fire registered in one of the deposits of the institution, last Wednesday, the ministers were summoned this Sunday by the National Congress to present a report.
Minister Jaime Bestard ratified that internal elections will not be held on separate dates and all the elections of the political parties and movements to define the presidential badges will be on December 18.
He also guaranteed that ballots will not be used and voting machines will be used.
Regarding the effects of the fire, it damaged some 7,919 voting machines. However, the TSJE has another 11,052, plus 1,872 machines abroad, which will be brought by the date, informed Minister César Rossel.
In total, 13,086 voting machines will be available for that day.
The only change that the TSJE will request is the modification of Article 218 of the Electoral Code to extend the closure of the voting tables on the day of the internal elections. The proposal is to extend the closing of the voting tables from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., which also represents an extension of the voters per table, added Bestard.
The fire claimed the life of TSJE official Aníbal Ortíz. The ministers and congressmen expressed their sorrow for the loss.
