TSJ endorses extradition of alias El Virolo

The Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) declared admissible the extradition request made by Venezuela to Colombia for its authorities to hand over Jorge David Fernández Fernández (El Virolo), who was captured in the neighboring country on January 5. Such decision is contained in sentence number 9 of the Criminal Chamber, signed by its three members: Maikel Moreno (speaker or editor), Carmen Marisela Castro and Elsa Gómez.

Fernández presents four extradition requests. The first refers to the attack perpetrated against the company Clam Instalaciones SA, located in the La Estrella sector, kilometer 45, via Perijá, La Cañada de Urdaneta municipality (Zulia). That assault occurred on April 14, 2025 when three armed individuals entered the company, set two trucks on fire and shot a third, shouting that they were acting on instructions from the Virolo. Subsequently, the owners of the company received messages from El Virolo demanding a large sum in dollars in exchange for leaving them alone.

The second extradition is motivated by the murder of Manuel Segundo González Paz, committed by four associates of El Virolo, who on 3/11/24 arrived at the victim’s home located in the Campo Boscán sector, Jesús Enrique Lossada municipality (La Concepción); They put him on a motorcycle they own and drive him to a nearby area where they kill him with firearms.

The third extradition request deals with the murder of Cicpc Yesica official Carolina Echeto, which occurred on October 3, 2025 in the Los Lirios sector, Lossada municipality (Zulia). El Virolo entrusted that murder to Anthooan Manuel García Peña, who traveled on a motorcycle manned by Carlos José Nieves Zambrano to the aforementioned place, observed Echeto and shot him 10 times, causing his death at the scene, according to the investigation.

And finally, the fourth extradition request is based on the participation of alias El Virolo in an extortion scheme in combination with a subject nicknamed El Nano.

For these reasons, the Criminal Chamber gave the green light to the extradition of Fernández, who would be tried in Venezuela for the crimes of extortion, criminal association and obstruction of freedom of commerce.
