TSJ approved Coordination Regulations for Communal Justice of the Peace

The Plenary Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ), approved the Internal Regulations of the National Coordination of Communal Justice of the Peace of the Judiciary, whose purpose is to establish the rules for the organization and operation of this instance aimed at supporting and coordinating this special jurisdiction.

The president of the TSJ, magistrate Gladys Gutiérrez Alvarado, highlighted the power that the communal judge or justice of the peace has to make decisions, through alternative means for the resolution of conflicts or controversies, in the territorial scope of their action.

This regulation makes it possible to understand the power to know, investigate and decide on matters subject to its competence and the power to endorse agreements based on conciliation, dialogue, mediation, understanding and reparation of damage, with the purpose of restore harmony, peace, good living and community coexistence.

The special jurisdiction focuses on the power of the communal judge of the peace to hear and decide on everything related to the actions, abstentions, refusals or actions of the communal councils, communes and organizations of Popular Power, as well as on situations that, due to the internal functioning of these instances, violate, affect or restrict the exercise of the right to participation and popular leadership.

Through this instrument, the work of the Judiciary will be increased and strengthened to optimize the development of communal justice of the peace in the national territory, a task in which the People’s Power is called upon to play a leading and fundamental role.

Gutiérrez Alvarado also expressed that this national coordination will carry out intense training work in each region of the country.

It should be noted that the National Coordination of Communal Justice of the Peace of the Judiciary was created in 2017, through the General Regulations and Operations of the Communal Justice of the Peace, a rule that regulates both the organization and the operation of the Special Jurisdiction of the Justice of the Peace.
