The president of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), Minister Alexandre de Moraes, on the night of yesterday (29) the Federal Police (PF) and the Federal Highway Police (PRF) from carrying out any operation that affects the public transport of voters in this Sunday (30).
In the decision, Moraes said that the directors of both corporations could be held criminally liable in the event of non-compliance. He also barred the PF from presenting results of operations related to the elections.
The minister responded to the request of deputy Paulo Teixeira (PT-SP), who called the TSE asking for measures to ensure that the PF and the PRF were not mobilized in favor of President Jair Bolsonaro’s campaign, who is seeking reelection, and to the detriment of the campaign. of former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
The congressman made the request alleging that there were news that the PRF would be prepared to carry out special operations on roads in this Sunday (30). He also cited a TV station report on the opening of an investigation by the Public Ministry to investigate the alleged political use of the PRF.
Moraes justified the decision in view of the proximity of the election. “The electoral process, as one of the pillars of democracy, must be protected,” said the minister. He added that it is up to the TSE “to monitor the fairness of procedures so that parity in elections is not altered.”
Before granting the injunction (provisional decision), the president of the TSE had given four hours to the PRF and the PF to provide information on special operations on election day. He considered, however, that the information “was not sufficient to refute the widely publicized news, and there is, so far, no indication of the reasons that justify the specific operations implemented in the second round of the elections, except to curb the purchase of votes. ”.
THE Brazil Agency contacted the PF, which replied only that it was already complying with the decision of Minister Alexandre de Moraes. The PRF has not yet manifested itself.
