The president of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), Minister Cármen Lúcia, informed this Tuesday (6) that voters will be able to report cases of misinformation during the electoral campaign. 
The Electoral Court will provide the telephone number 1491, through which citizens can inform the Electoral Court of any type of misinformation they have witnessed. The call is free.
Upon receiving the complaint, the Integrated Center for Combating Disinformation and Defending Democracy, a TSE body, will verify the origin of the information and forward the case to the Federal Police or the Electoral Public Prosecutor’s Office (MPE) for appropriate action. The service will be available from this Wednesday (7).
In addition, the Federal Police will have a panel to monitor the progress of complaints received.
“It will be duly forwarded so that, in record time and speed, we can have the appropriate response to this complaint, this suspicion, so that people are not mistaken about what is said,” said the president.
The minister also reported that internet platforms have signed agreements with the TSE to combat misinformation during the election. According to the president, social networks must collaborate with the Electoral Court to ensure free voting and uncontaminated by lies.
“These agreements were signed in recent days and are now in force,” added the minister.
Election campaign
On Tuesday (6), the TSE also launched an information campaign in partnership with the National Association of Magazine Publishers (Aner) to prevent the spread of lies during the election. With the slogan “Journalism is trustworthy”, the campaign will feature informative ads to inform voters and prevent the spread of lies that could undermine the election.
