The Superior Electoral Court (TSE) fined the campaign of presidential candidate Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) today (13) BRL 10,000 for early electoral propaganda.
The votes were cast by ministers Ricardo Lewandowski, Cármen Lúcia, Benedito Gonçalves, Sergio Banhos, Carlos Horbach and the president, Alexandre de Moraes.
Unanimously, the court upheld the decision handed down last month by Minister Maria Cláudia Bucchianeri, who acknowledged that the candidate asked for votes before the period allowed by law and ordered the removal of the excerpt of a speech by the candidate from the internet.
The minister accepted the withdrawal request made by the PDT, which alleged the configuration of early electoral propaganda during the event, held on August 3, in Teresina, which also had the participation of PT candidates for the government of Piauí and the Senate. The election campaign officially started on 16 August.
During the trial, lawyer Eugênio Aragão, representing Lula’s campaign, stated that the act was aimed at party militants and was not seeking votes.
“It wasn’t about seeking votes, there was no such objective. Who was there was the left bubble itself, which supports the coalition. It had much more of a discourse of motivating militancy for the campaign”, he affirmed.
