The Superior Electoral Court (TSE) approved today (3) an adjustment to the electoral calendar and procedures for monitoring the 2022 elections. electoral.TSE approves adjustment of electoral calendar and supervision of elections

The resolution passed by the court this Thursday (3) adjusted the electoral calendar to a decision of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), in February, which validated the federations and established the deadline of May 31 for federations to obtain the registration of their statute with the Superior Electoral Court (TSE). Previously, a decision by Minister Luís Roberto Barroso had established March 1 as the final date for registration.

The decision of the STF established that, in order to participate in the elections, the federations must be constituted as a legal entity and obtain the registration of the statute with the TSE within the same period applicable to political parties. However, the court ruled that federations that meet these conditions will be able to participate in this year’s elections until May 31.

The Court also approved a resolution to give visibility to the 2022 elections, to procedures related to the aggregation of votes in the electoral process. The measure authorizes access, to anyone interested, to ballot boxes and correspondence tables sent for aggregation over the entire period of receipt, on voting day. Previously, the deadline was three days after the polls closed.

Changes in the inspection and auditing procedures of the electronic voting system were also approved. The Court increased from 3% to 6% the percentage of verification by sampling of electronic voting machines chosen by representatives of entities that act as supervisors of elections.

The audit or integrity test is a procedure to test the security in capturing and counting the vote by the electronic voting machine. Conducted on the eve of the elections, the audit consists of carrying out a vote parallel to the official vote in order to prove that the vote received/typed is exactly the one that will be counted.

According to the president of the TSE, Minister Edson Fachin, the expansion in the sampling of this procedure aims to “provide maximum supervision and transparency in the electoral process”.

face-to-face work

During the opening of the session, this Thursday, Fachin announced the return of servers to face-to-face work as of Monday (7). According to the minister, the resumption will be gradual, maintaining the hybrid regime, when necessary. Oral arguments also take place again with the presence of lawyers in plenary.

For this, those who register to occupy the rostrum must present proof of vaccination with the number of doses corresponding to the complete cycle, as recommended by the health authorities.
