Trump warns that Venezuelan airspace be considered “completely closed”

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, warned this Saturday in a message through his social network Truth that airlines and pilots take into account that Venezuelan airspace “will remain completely closed.”

“To all airlines, pilots, drug traffickers and human traffickers: we ask you to consider that the airspace over Venezuela and its surroundings will remain completely closed. Thank you for your attention! PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP,” says the president’s message, which does not clarify any circumstances related to the closure, at a time of high tension between the two countries.

The message comes after The New York Time newspaper reported a telephone conversation between Trump and the president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, to explore a possible meeting, a call that neither party has officially confirmed or denied.

On November 21, the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) urged “extreme caution” when flying over Venezuela and the southern Caribbean in the face of what it considers “a potentially dangerous situation” in the area, according to a report from EFE.

The warning occurs in the context of the US bombings against boats in the Caribbean, which have caused several deaths and which is carried out with the – unproven – argument of fighting drug trafficking, in which it also implicates the Venezuelan authorities and, especially, Maduro.

In addition, it comes after Trump suggested on Thursday that the United States is preparing to take new measures against alleged drug trafficking networks in Venezuela, and stated that ground attacks will begin “very soon,” as he recalls. cnn.

Cuba denounces “interference” on Venezuela

The Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez, denounced this same day the “electromagnetic interference” over Venezuelan airspace due to the United States military deployment in that area.

“We denounce persistent electromagnetic interference in the Caribbean, particularly over Venezuelan airspace, caused by the offensive and extraordinary US military deployment in the region,” the Cuban Foreign Minister noted on social networks.

Rodríguez added in his message that everything “is part of the escalation of military aggression and psychological war against Venezuelan territory, aimed at forcibly overthrowing the legitimate government of that sister nation of Our America.”

Trump and Maduro spoke secretly, but there was no progress

Under the argument of combating drug trafficking, the United States has maintained a naval and air deployment in the waters of the Caribbean Sea near Venezuela since September. Along with this, he linked the Venezuelan president, Nicolás Maduro, with the Cartel of the Suns, a group allegedly linked to drug trafficking.

Cuba, a historical ally of Venezuela, has warned since the beginning of the tensions that “what it considers to be Washington’s “pretexts” for an eventual military aggression against Venezuela “cannot be accepted legally or morally,” the Spanish agency points out.
