Washington. President Donald Trump insisted that he is willing to order the United States armed forces to carry out attacks against drug cartels in Mexico and Colombia, similar to the bombings against ships in the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean.
“Would you consider doing something similar (to the attacks on vessels in the Caribbean and the Pacific) in Mexico and Colombia because they are even more responsible for fentanyl trafficking (to the United States)?” journalist Dasha Burns, from the media, asked the president. Political.
“Yes. I would. Of course I would,” Trump responded in the interview held at the White House.
Trump avoided elaborating on the potential US military attacks within Mexican territory that he has repeatedly threatened since the time of the 2024 electoral campaign that brought him back to the White House.
Although he claimed to be promoting a peace agenda abroad, Trump confirmed that he could expand the military actions that his administration has undertaken in Latin America against targets that, he claims “without evidence,” are linked to drug trafficking.
Bombings on 23 alleged narcolanchas
Since September, United States military forces have bombed some 23 vessels in the Caribbean Sea and the Eastern Pacific supposedly linked to drug trafficking, under orders from Trump. The attacks have left more than 87 dead.
The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, in the midst of growing diplomatic tensions with his US counterpart, has denounced that the bombings are “extrajudicial executions” and is critical of Washington’s anti-drug policy.
