Trump suggests migratory relief for some undocumented workers

Madrid, Spain.- The President of the United States, Donald Trump, suggested Thursday that his government will offer temporary migration relief to undocumented people who work in essential sectors such as agriculture and hotel. The statements were made during a meeting of his cabinet in which, for the first time in this new mandate, the president publicly recognized the high dependence of the country of this workforce.

“We have to take care of our farmers, the hotels and, they already know, of several, several places where they usually, where people usually need,” Trump said from the Oval office.

The proposal, even without specific details, states that agricultural employers can present recommendation letters in favor of certain workers without legal status. This would allow to stop its deportation and facilitate, in a second stage, its re -entry to the country with legal visas.

“A farmer will come with a letter relative to certain people saying that they are excellent, that they are working hard. We are going to stop a little for them, and then we ultimately go to bring them back. They will come out, they will return as legal workers,” the president explained before the press.

Trump also pointed out that he will allow agricultural companies to “recommend” what employees in irregular immigration situation should remain in the United States. This measure is a turn in its usual rhetoric, which has repeatedly described undocumented immigrants as “criminals” and promoted Mass deportation policies.

The announcement arises amid strong pressure from the agricultural sector, which has expressed its rejection of the raids and expulsions promoted by the White House.

Since November, agricultural leaders have asked the Government for their workers to be exempted from deportation plans, warning that without them it would be impossible to maintain food supply. According to the Department of Agriculture (USDA), undocumented immigrants represent approximately 40% of the agricultural workforce. Most come from Mexico and Central America, and their work covers all stages of agricultural production.

In parallel, the White House confirmed that before the end of the month the controversial “Golden Card” will begin to be processed. It is a residence permit for those who invest five million dollars in the United States. This card will grant similar benefits to those of a Green Card, but with the particularity that it will exempt its holders from paying taxes for income generated abroad.

Trump’s statements also arrive after the report presented by the Secretary of Internal Security, Kriti Noem, who highlighted the progress in the number of people who have accepted the Self -Portation campaign promoted by the White House. Although he did not offer concrete figures, he explained that those who choose to voluntarily should do so through the CBP Home application, which allows to verify their location by geolocation.

Trump insisted that his administration is willing to collaborate with those who decide to leave the country voluntarily. “If they leave in a good way, we will work with them from the beginning so that they can return legally,” he said.

In an even more restrictive context, this Friday a new immigration standard enters into force that requires all undocumented immigrants over 14 years old and with more than 30 days in the country that officially register and present their traces. Failure to comply with this provision could lead to jail sentences.

The new measures have generated mixed reactions. While some sectors interpret Trump’s statements as a pragmatic opening gesture, others warn about the lack of real guarantees and legal uncertainty that millions of people continue to face. The migratory debate, far from being resolved, remains one of the most sensitive axes of the US political agenda.
