Trump says he will boost nuclear energy production if he wins the election

New York, Aug 19 (EFE).- Former President and current Republican candidate for the White House, Donald Trump (2017-2021), promised this Monday to promote nuclear energy production if he wins the elections and to focus on “Made in USA” in the supply chain to channel the country’s economy.

Trump spoke at a rally at an industrial components factory in York, Pennsylvania, that his campaign had described as a speech about his economic agenda. While it included some proposals, it was generally vague and focused more on attacking his Democratic rival, Kamala Harris.

The candidate began his nearly hour-long speech by reiterating some of his slogans: creating “millions” of jobs, lowering taxes, removing regulations, rebuilding the U.S. industrial base and stopping outsourcing to other countries, and “bringing back those beautiful words: ‘Made in USA.'”

As he did last week, Trump has promised to cut energy prices in half in his first 12 months in office, including those for “heating, air conditioning, electricity and gasoline” for factories, which he hopes will make “America affordable again.”

“Today I’m announcing that when I return to the White House, I will end Kamala’s anti-American energy crusade and the so-called Power Plant Rule,” he said, accusing her of a “regulatory jihad” to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuel-powered plants.

In this regard, he promised to “build dozens and dozens” of power plants and “quickly approve new energy infrastructure,” including nuclear, which he praised as “great energy.”

He also promised a “historic commitment” to put “small modular reactors” into operation instead of “massive nuclear plants”, citing France as an example.

“Billions of taxpayer dollars are being sent to subsidize solar panel factories, wind turbines, battery production and automobiles, all in China (…). Under the Trump Administration, we will build American, buy American and hire American,” he said.

He also said that “we will have 100% American domestic supply chains for all essential goods” and that he will bring back to the US “the production of electronic devices” and vehicles, destroyed “by electric cars” that are outsourced to other countries.

“When I take office, I will invoke the Defense Production Act when necessary to rapidly ramp up capacity for essential products, and I will prevent Japan from buying United States Steel,” he added, referring to the purchase of the American giant announced in 2023, which has not yet been closed.

Apart from that, Trump personified in Harris, whom he repeatedly called a communist, his attacks on the Joe Biden Administration for the increase in prices of common goods, the loss of competitiveness against China or other countries, and the different ramifications of those two factors.

He also addressed the recent publication of the report on his finances for electoral obligations, which figures the income of his businesses since last year and his obligations, about which he said “I don’t need money” and assured that as president he lost “billions of dollars” but was “satisfied.”
