Former US President and candidate for re-election, Donald Trump, said that the crime rate in Venezuela has dropped considerably.
Referring to the statistics, the former US president said: “Caracas, Venezuela, is a really dangerous place, but not so much anymore, because in Venezuela crime has dropped by 72%.”
Faced with this, Trump admits that Venezuela is safer than the United States, also asserting that the “next Democratic convention” should be held in Caracas because crime has dropped by 72%.
According to official figures, crime rates in the country at the end of 2023 had a reduction of 16.8%, one of the largest being the crime of homicide, which was reduced by 21%, which places the country with a rate of 5.21 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
According to data compiled by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) Global Study on Homicide, published at the end of 2023, it was revealed that crime in Venezuela had decreased by 60%.
So the White House candidate’s data may not be entirely wrong.
