Former President Donald Trump was indicted on Thursday on federal charges for his handling of classified documents that he withdrew from the White House and took to his Mar-a-Lago home in Florida.
He was also told to appear in federal court in Miami on Tuesday afternoon, the former president said on his Truth Social account Thursday night.
ABC News and CNN broke into regular television programming shortly after 7 p.m. to report that a grand jury in Florida had voted to indict Trump on multiple federal charges.
It is the first time that a former president has faced federal charges from the Department of Justice. The exact charges are not clear yet, we will have to wait for Tuesday.
In a separate case, Donald Trump is facing local charges in a Manhattan court for secret payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels during his 2016 campaign.
Trump wrote on his Truth Social social media site at 7:21 p.m. Thursday that he has been subpoenaed to appear in Miami federal court at 3 p.m. Tuesday.
“My lawyers have been informed by the corrupt Biden administration that I have been indicted, apparently for the Pitos hoax,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “I AM AN INNOCENT MAN!” he stressed.
