A member of the House Committee investigating the unrest at the US Capitol said today that former President Donald Trump could be called to testify about the events of January 6.

“This was an organized coup by the president against the vice president and against Congress to nullify the 2020 presidential election,” said Rep. Jamie Raskin, who led the second impeachment of Trump.

He added: “We were saved by Pence’s refusal to follow Trump’s orders to block the certification of Joe Biden’s victory.”

So far, the House panel has collected more than 100,000 documents and conducted more than 800 interviews, including testimony from top Trump administration figures like Ivanka Trump, Jared Kushner and Stephen Miller.

Five days after Kushner, who like Ivanka and Miller was a senior White House adviser, appeared before the committee for more than six hours, Ivanka, his wife, fielded questions from lawmakers for eight hours.

So far, they are the only members of the Trump family to have testified.

Although Committee members have revealed little about the testimony of Kushner and Ivanka, its chairman, bennie thompsoncalled the interviews with Kushner “really valuable” to the investigation.
