Trump issues warning: Consider Venezuelan airspace completely closed

La revolución de Donald Trump

Donald Trump’s new warning comes a few hours after his statements in which he assured that “very soon” they would carry out ground attacks on the drug trafficking cartels in Venezuela

US President Donald Trump warned “airlines, pilots, drug traffickers and human traffickers” to consider Venezuelan airspace “completely closed.”

In a message through his Truth social network, the president made the warning that it would affect air operations to and from Venezuela.

«To all airlines, pilots, drug traffickers and human traffickers: we ask you to consider that the airspace over Venezuela and its surroundings will remain completely closed. Thank you for your time! PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP,” he wrote without giving further details.

Air operations in the country have been affected since last Friday, November 21, when the United States Federal Aviation Administration alerted commercial airlines and pilots to exercise extreme caution at all altitudes, including during overflight, arrivals or departures and with planes on the ground, due to “potential risks” due to the “worsening security situation and increased military activity” in the country or its surroundings.

Following the Aviation alert, at least 11 airlines suspended their operations. In response, Nicolás Maduro’s administration revoked the concession of six whom it accused of participating in “terrorist actions.” Among the companies affected by the measure are Iberia Líneas Aéreas de España SA, Transportes Aéreos Portugueses SA (TAP Portugal), Aerovías del Continente Americano SA (Avianca), Aerovías de Integración Regional SA (Latam Airlines Colombia), Turkish Airlines and GOL Linhas Aereas SA

Donald Trump’s new warning comes a few hours after his statements in which he assured that “very soon” they would carry out ground attacks on the drug trafficking cartels in Venezuela.

Competence over the regulation of Venezuelan airspace corresponds to the Venezuelan Executive through the Civil Aeronautical Authority and the National Armed Forces. The Civil Aeronautics Law establishes everything related to its use. The national Constitution enshrines the principle of absolute sovereignty over airspace. The Chicago Convention of 1944, which establishes the bases for international civil aviation, reaffirms the right of each country to control the airspace over its territory.
