Attacks on ships supposedly transporting drugs in the Caribbean and Eastern Pacific have left at least 83 dead, according to reports from Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, who is currently facing criticism over the legality of one of the first bombings.
Likewise, the Trump administration is moving forward with new objectives in the Caribbean, after the seizure of a false flag oil tanker near the Venezuelan coast. Leavitt said that this “ghost ship” had been sanctioned by the United States for having transported Iranian oil for the black market.
Asked whether the objective of Trump’s pressure campaign on Maduro is to combat drug trafficking or to obtain oil, Leavitt said that the US government is “focused on doing many things” in the region. He noted that stopping the flow of drugs and enforcing the sanctions policy are “two very important things” for the administration.
