The proclamation imposes a 50% tariff on semi -copper products and copper -intensive products from August 1, according to an information sheet published by the White House.
Tariffs will exclude copper scrap and inputs such as copper minerals, concentrates, bushes, cathodes and anodes, according to the statement.
The measure occurred after an American investigation under section 232, which Trump ordered in February.
Together with tariffs, the order asks for measures to support the national copper industry, including the requirement that 25% of the high quality scrap metal produced in the United States is also sold within the country.

The price of copper fell more than 19% in the New York metal bag on Wednesday, after the White House announced tariffs to the red metal with a lower range than expected.

On its website, the White House clarified that 50% customs surcharges will only apply to copper -made products, not to gross metal imports.
