The president of the United States, Donald Trump, confirmed that he had a telephone conversation with his Venezuelan counterpart, Nicolás Maduro, after being approached by journalists this Sunday aboard Air Force One.
However, the American president did not want to make any type of comment on the matter and only limited himself to confirm the call. «I don’t want to comment on it. The answer is yes,” he expressed bluntly, as seen in the audio.
Likewise, Trump indicated that he would not say that the conversation “went well or badly.” «It was a phone call. Yes,” he concluded.
On Friday it emerged from The New York Times that the call occurred at the end of last week, which according to the spokespersons took place in “correct” terms and that it could be a first step to continue with the dialogue and open a diplomatic channel that contrasts with the accusations of drug trafficking against the national government and the military or the constant veiled threat of a possible action in Venezuelan territory by the gringo forces.
The leaders discussed a possible meeting, according to the NYT, even as the United States continues to threaten military action against Venezuela. However, it was learned that at the moment there are no plans for such a meeting.
There is no imminent attack
On the other hand, he denied that his announcement about the “closure” of Venezuelan airspace was a hint of an imminent attack. “It should not be interpreted in any way,” he explained.
It should be noted that this Saturday, through an official statement, the Venezuelan Government denounced that the US president’s announcement about the closure of airspace constitutes “a new extravagant, illegal and unjustified aggression.”
This Sunday, the president of the National AssemblyJorge Rodríguez, stressed that “Venezuelan airspace is the direct responsibility of the Bolivarian Government,” referring to the measures taken by the government in defense of national sovereignty, who also highlighted that some clear actions have already been taken in the communications that were published.
Rodríguez also highlighted the operation ordered by the president of the RepublicNicolás Maduro, for the implementation of a special plan for the return of compatriots who are stranded in other countries, as well as facilitating the departure of those who must travel abroad.
On the other hand, Rodríguez stressed that between Venezuela and the United States, there is no declared war, which is why, in his opinion, one of the motivations of US congressmen and senators to now investigate the murders of the Trump administration in the Caribbean.
“If the United States makes it normal to kill shipwrecked people, perhaps then other armies at war with the United States will consider that they have the same right to violate the Geneva Convention and to violate Protocol Number 1,” Rodríguez said.
