The consequences of budget paralysis in the United States (EU) will be increasingly harmful yesterday republican leaders warned, while the president himself, Donald Trump, announced the beginning of the first dismissals.
With the Democrats who refuse to give in the issue of subsidies in the Budget for Government Health Services, the White House says that plans for the dismissal of thousands of federal workers are being completed.
“It’s happening right now. It’s all because of the Democrats,” Trump said in reference to dismissals before journalists in the White House.
The president has blamed the threat of layoffs since the beginning of the budget blockade on Wednesday, while Republicans and Democrats blame each other.
This Shutdown, which enters today in its second week, has not shown signs of a solution and Trump again blamed the Democrats yesterday: “Democrats are causing the loss of many jobs,” he said.
Since their unsuccessful meeting at the White House on Monday, the main Democratic and Republican leaders in Congress have not met.
“If the president believes that the negotiations are not going anywhere, then the dismissals will begin,” Kevin Hassett, Trump’s main economic advisor, said in CNN.
“We maintain the hope that with a new beginning earlier this week, we can convince Democrats that common sense is to avoid such dismissals,” he added.
John Thune, leader of the Republican majority in the Senate, in turn recognized that both parties were still in the dead man and suggested that more American workers would pay the consequences.
“This is going to be uncomfortable,” he hinted at Fox News, and confirmed that conversations between racks continued about a possible extension of Obamacare’s subsidies, the medical insurance program.
EU delays Employment Key Report and other reports
The United States suspended on Friday the publication of a key report on employment while the partial closure of the government entered its third day, throwing shadows on the health of the world’s largest economy.
The Government has also delayed other economic publications this week, including a report on the number of Americans seeking unemployment benefits, depriving government and business leaders of indicators used in decision making.
The data suspension occurs while the ongoing closure caused hundreds of thousands of federal employees to be sent home in a variety of agencies.
The Congress Budget Office recently estimated that, if there was an interruption in financing, around 750,000 employees could be suspended for work every day.
Without updated official data, “the Federal Reserve will not have the complete panorama you need to make decisions this month on interest rates that will affect all the families of the country,” Elizabeth Warren warned Thursday, the main Democrat in the Senate Banking Committee.
