Washington. US President Donald Trump announced yesterday that Israel and Hamas agreed to the release of all those kidnapped in Gaza and the withdrawal of Israeli troops to an agreed line within Palestinian territory as part of a “first phase” of their peace plan.

The pact was confirmed by Tel Aviv and the Palestinian resistance movement, as well as Qatar and Egypt, which also mediated.

It turned out that “the agreement will be formally signed around noon this Thursday in Egypt,” declared a source cited by AFP, who asked to remain anonymous.

Later, speaking to Fox News, Trump said the United States will play a role in helping to rebuild Gaza and keep it safe and peaceful.

The Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, urged all parties to fully comply with the agreement and for it to “lead to the end of the occupation” and the two-state solution.

On his Truth Social network, the tycoon wrote: “I am proud to announce that Israel and Hamas have signed the first phase of our peace plan. This means that all hostages will be released very soon and Israel will withdraw its troops to an agreed line as the first step towards a solid, lasting and lasting peace. All parties will be treated fairly! This is a great day for the Arab and Muslim world, Israel, all neighboring nations and the United States of America, and we thank the mediators from Qatar, Egypt and Türkiye, who worked with us to make this historic and unprecedented event a reality. Blessed are the peacemakers!”

Going to Egypt

Previously, Trump noted that if there was an agreement “maybe I will go there (to Egypt, where negotiations took place for three days) at the end of the week, maybe on Sunday.”

The Qatari Foreign Ministry expressed agreement “on all the provisions and implementation mechanisms of the first phase of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, which will lead to the end of the war, the release of Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners, as well as the entry of aid.”

Trump’s plan foresees that in the following stages “a temporary transitional administration” of Palestinian “technocrats” will be installed in Gaza, supervised by an international “peace board” chaired by the magnate himself and which would include former British Prime Minister Tony Blair. Hamas thanked the efforts of Qatar, Egypt and Turkey, and of Trump, and called on both the US president and the guarantor countries and the various Arab, Islamic and international parties “to force the (Israeli) occupation government to comply with the agreement in its entirety.

▲ United by misfortune but separated by hunger, Palestinian children and adults compete every day to get a little food. In the image on the left, they are pushing, shouting and elbowing each other for a bit of rice, which they must make the most of, since the next portion of food could take days. The news of the peace plan between Hamas and Israel spread around 2 in the morning in Gaza and although there were isolated celebrations; The fear remains, as the bombings continued in several areas of the coastal territory. The feeling of uncertainty persists. Experience dictates that Tel Aviv has repeatedly violated the agreements. Doctors of the World, Action Against Hunger and Doctors Without Borders warned of the “catastrophic” health conditions and child malnutrition that has increased drastically” in the enclave. “We emphasize that the sacrifices of our people will not be in vain. We will maintain our loyalty to the promise and will not give up the national rights of our people, including freedom, independence and self-determination,” Hamas added and assured that it will release 20 live captives this weekend.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that he will meet with his government today to approve the agreement and highlighted: “With God’s help we will bring them all (the hostages) home (…) It is a diplomatic success and a national and moral victory for the State of Israel,” and he thanked the leadership “of our great friend and ally President Trump.”

Netanyahu and Trump held an “emotional and warm” phone call and “congratulated each other on the historic achievement.” The premier’s office indicated that Netanyahu invited the Republican to address the Knesset (Israel’s Parliament), reported The Times of Israel.

Trump also referred to the call, in an interview with Fox News: “I spoke to Bibi Netanyahu a while ago. She called me. She said, ‘I can’t believe it. Now everyone likes me.'” He stressed that “the hostages will be released, probably on Monday… We believe that they will all return on Monday, including the bodies of the dead.”

The exchange

Relatives of the captives, who celebrated in Hostage Square in Tel Aviv, sent the magnate a video expressing their gratitude.

Hamas will exchange 20 live hostages for almost 2,000 Palestinian prisoners as part of the first phase of the ceasefire agreement, a source from the Islamic group told AFP. The hostages will be freed in exchange for 250 Palestinians sentenced to life in prison and another 1,700 arrested by Israel since the war began, the source added.

The exchange would occur within 72 hours following the implementation of the agreement, the signing of which is expected today.

Many of the details after three days of indirect talks in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Sharm al-Sheikh remain unclear and the challenges in implementing their terms are immense.

It was not immediately clear whether the sides had made any progress on thornier issues over the future of the conflict, including whether Hamas will demilitarize, as Trump has demanded, and the eventual governance of the war-torn territory, he said. The Guardian.
