Trujillo: New commission to confront coastal erosion

By Supreme Decree 021-2026-PCM, issued by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM), last Friday, February 13, the problem of coastal erosion that affects three resorts in the province of Trujillo, in the department of La Libertad (Las Delicias, Buenos Aires and Huanchaco) was declared of national interest.

The creation of a temporary multi-sector commission was also established that will prepare a report that must present solutions to address the problems.

CONFORMATION

The aforementioned multi-sector commission will be valid for two years, which will be chaired by a representative of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, and will be made up of representatives of the Ministries of Transportation and Communications; Environment, Defense and Production.

A delegate will also participate, respectively, from the Navy, the Regional Government of La Libertad and the Provincial Municipality of Trujillo, along with two representatives of the Front for the Replenishment of the Coastal Edge of Trujillo.

Its main task will be to prepare a report that contains technical solutions to address the problem of the coastline in the aforementioned resorts.

REJECT

Regarding the issue in question, Manuel Soto, president of the Specialized Commission for the Recovery of the Coastal Edge, maintained that the Executive’s decision to create a new multisectoral commission and evaluate possible solutions to the problem is a “setback” and a great “contradiction.”

“This means that the 15 years of struggle that we have had, the technical file that we have managed to prepare and the budget that was designated would return to zero. For me and for the group that I lead, this is an issue that responds to political and economic interests,” he emphasized.

Manuel Soto also questioned that this new multisector commission does not consider the participation of the mayors of the districts affected by coastal erosion. “15 years ago, Supreme Decree No. 024-2011 was issued, which is the mother of the lamb for the solution of the coastline and is still in force, since it entrusts the Ministry of Transport and Communications with all the actions that have to be carried out to replace the coastline. Now there is a new commission that has to give reports. It is not understood”he noted.
