Trujillo: foreigners enter the intangible zone of Chan Chan and start playing baseball

A group of foreign citizens began to play baseball in the citadel of Chan Chan, in Trujillo (La Libertad). This obvious attack on cultural heritage went viral on social media.

The video shows people playing baseball inside the intangible zone of Chan Chan. It was also found that they marked the surface of the land with lime and placed small and medium-sized stones, thus defining a baseball field, a sport that they had been practicing in the place.

In this regard, the Ministry of Culture, through the Decentralized Directorate of Culture (DDC) La Libertad, reported that it has coordinated with the Trujillo Tourism Police, so that they can provide the necessary support in patrolling the Archaeological Complex. Chan Chan, thus reinforcing security in the World Heritage Site.

Through a statement, he pointed out that the security of Chan Chan, located in the province of Trujillo, will be reinforced to prevent foreign or national citizens from using unauthorized spaces not authorized for the entry of visitors to intangible areas.

“It was possible to verify that there is no direct affectation to the archaeological structures of the place. Likewise, it has been possible to verify that the unauthorized practice of sports had been carried out within a sector of the Chan Chan archaeological zone, in a canchón surrounded by perimeter walls, which corresponds to the northern annex of Gran Chimú, located in an intangible area. by chan chan”, indicated the Mincul.
