The recent conflict at the National Institute of Agricultural Technology (INTA) has reached a point of truce after a series of intense and controversial negotiations. He Government and the INTA councilors have reached an agreement that, for now, avoids the layoffs of 227 employees and allows the sale of the emblematic Palermo building.
The building in question, which Government plans to sell, located at 3101/67 Cerviño Street, is a land of more than 900 square meters suitable for a real estate development, whose base price has been set at 6.3 million dollars.
This agreement is part of a broader “modernization” plan for INTA, which initially included the sale of land and real estate and the dismissal of employees. The decision to sell the Palermo building was made after a meeting of the INTA Board of Directors, which took place after a failed session on Thursday.
During this meeting, it was agreed that the building would be transferred to the State Asset Administration Agency (AABE) for subsequent auction. In addition, another 40 hectares of INTA Cerrillos in Salta will be transferred to the province for a housing plan.
However, one of the most controversial points of the modernization plan was the proposal to fire 227 non-permanent employees. This measure was rejected by the councilors, who argued that INTA needs more personnel and not less.
As a result, a group was formed to analyze 75-day staffing, consisting of four people. For now, the layoffs have been postponed. The conflict at INTA began when presidential spokesperson Manuel Adorni announced the modernization plan, which included the sale of buildings and land and the dismissal of employees.
Measures
This announcement generated a strong reaction from INTA councilors and workers, who organized demonstrations and protests in defense of their jobs. The Association of State Workers (ATE) was one of the organizations that most opposed the measures proposed by the Government.
The deputy general secretary of ATE, Mercedes Cabezas, argued that the dismissals were an attempt to proscribe a political ideology and that INTA needed more personnel to meet its objectives.
