Santo Domingo.-The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) predicted that a tropical wave and a trough will cause from the early hours of this Sunday, downpours and thunderstorms in the national territory.
Five provinces are on yellow alert and 15 are on green alert due to possible sudden floods, flooding of rivers, streams and ravines, as well as landslides.
Puerto Plata, María Trinidad Sánchez, Samaná, Duarte and La Altagracia are on yellow alert.
Espaillat, Valverde, Hato Mayor, Monseñor Nouel, Santiago Rodríguez, Barahona, El Seibo, Santiago, Dajabón, Montecristi, San Pedro de Macorís, Hermanas Mirabal, Santo Domingo and the National District are on green alert.

Affected provinces
The current weather conditions will mainly affect the provinces of La Altagracia, El Seibo, Hato Mayor, Samaná, María Trinidad Sánchez and Duarte, and then extend to other provinces such as; La Romana, San Pedro de Macorís, Gran Santo Domingo, Monte Plata, Monseñor Nouel, La Vega, Peravia, San José de Ocoa.
The state agency confirmed that Tropical Storm Rafael, which was located about 470 kilometers north/northeast of Progreso, Mexico, does not represent a danger to the Dominican Republic, with maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour.
This atmospheric phenomenon is moving towards the west/northwest at a speed of 9 kilometers per hour.
Indomet said that “we are reporting on a disorganized area of showers and thunderstorms, associated with a trough located several hundred kilometers from the Bahamas, which has a 10% probability of developing into a tropical cyclone in the next 48 hours and 10% probability of developing into a tropical cyclone in the next 48 hours. for the next 7 days.”
