Tropical Storm Sara left two people dead, one injured and damage to 50 municipalities in Nicaragua

The National System for Disaster Prevention, Mitigation and Attention (Sinapred) confirmed that the passage of tropical storm Sara caused the death of two people in Nicaragua and serious damage to 50 municipalities.

The vice dictator of Nicaragua, Rosario Murillo, in her midday speech, detailed that the cases of the deceased occurred: one in the Los Laureles neighborhood of Cuapa, Chontales; and another in La Trinidad, Estelí.

«Unfortunately, the one we met, who was dragged on his motorcycle while crossing a bridge in the Los Laureles neighborhood of Cuapa, in Chontales, Bismarck José Velásquez Miranda, 25 years old, our sincere solidarity with his family; and then, Kevin Magdiel García Dávila, 8 years old, a boy swept away by the currents, in the Rosario Abajo ravine, when he was traveling with his grandfather, on horseback, his grandfather Justo Pastor García, 53 years old, in La Trinidad, department of Estelí,” Murillo specified in relation to the two cases of deceased people.

He mentioned that the body of the minor was recovered hours later near a brickyard in the El Granero region and said that they also documented the case of citizen Lucas Evangelista Martínez, 91 years old, who was also injured in the Las Lajas sector, in El Realejo. , Chinandega, after a tree fell on the bus in which he was traveling.

The older adult was transferred to the Mauricio Abdalah hospital in Chinandega, where, according to Murillo, he is “recovering” satisfactorily.

More than 1,600 flooded homes

The Sinapred authorities also recorded that there were 1,601 flooded homes, of which at least 18 had “partial damage”, four “with total damage” and 1,301 only had “some type of damage.”

Murillo assured that the Sinapred authorities, in coordination with firefighters, police and community members, managed to evacuate 2,455 people, making up 735 families, who were in risk areas or “solidarity housing”, although he highlighted that “they were all already able to return.” to their places.”

Likewise, it reported that seven schools were flooded, a wall collapsed and 25 trees fell as a result of the rains, which caused momentary obstructions on roads and damage to some pipes.

Sinapred also documented landslides in 17 parts of the country, damage to at least seven latrines and river flooding.
