Tropical depression number 18 enters the territory, and will cause rain during the week

The Nicaraguan Institute of Territorial Studies (Ineter) reported the entry of tropical depression number 18, between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, so moderate rains are expected during the week throughout the territory.

According to Manuel Prado, from the Ineter Climate Directorate, the heaviest rains will be recorded between Wednesday and the weekend and more frequently during the night and early morning hours.

Ineter explains that although the phenomenon is located about 600 kilometers from the Nicaraguan Caribbean Coast, it will generate rainfall more frequently in the Pacific and north of the country.

Regarding temperatures, Ineter states that the maximum temperatures in the Pacific will range between 30 and 34 degrees Celsius. For the north of the country it will be between 28 and 30 degrees. The minimum temperatures will be between 23 and 25 for the Pacific in the early morning hours and up to 19 degrees for the center of the country.

Prado warns of a possible increase in waves in the southern coastal area of ​​the country.

For its part, the Observatory of Natural Phenomena (OFENA) states that tropical depression number 18 has a 100 percent chance of becoming a tropical storm in just 48 hours and remaining that way for 7 days, so the territory will be It will continue to rain throughout the week.

In addition, Agustín Moreira, from OFENA, affirms that the Mozón current will continue to affect the South of Nicaragua during the beginning of the week, which will cause heavy rains in some areas of the southwest of the territory.

Moreira says a low pressure could also develop near the northern Leeward Islands in a few days. “Some slow development of this system is possible after that time, as it moves generally westward over the southwest Atlantic,” OFENA says.

Regarding the winds, Moreira indicates that they will be light to moderate, with winds of 14 to 16 kilometers per hour in the Pacific of the country.

Both Ineter and OFENA warn about the probability of a tropical cyclone that could become a category one hurricane in the middle of the week, off Cuba, and head towards the Gulf of Mexico by the end of the week, already as a tropical storm.

In addition, both institutes will monitor “Patty,” a tropical storm in the North Atlantic that could disappear or strengthen by next week.
