The Observatory of Natural Phenomena (Ofena) reported that Nicaragua will be affected by the “tropical depression” that will enter the territory through the Caribbean Coast of the country this coming Friday, July 1. The cyclonic event will be generating effects mainly in the southeast area, where Bluefields is located.
“(The cyclone) remains in a position always in front of the Caribbean coast of Nicaragua, it will be affecting the entire Caribbean sector in a broad way, mainly in the southeastern part, Bluefields and internally affecting the port of Morrito, the area of San Carlos in Río San Juan”, he explained this Monday through a video Agustín Moreira, agrometeorologist and director of Ofena.
“Later on Saturday, its effects on the great Lake Nicaragua continue, in the southern part of Rivas. Then we have the formation of some plumes that go towards the central area of Nicaragua, the Pacific and the northwest, these rainy conditions will continue during what is Saturday (July 2) until Sunday (July 3). ), to the area of El Salvador,” he said.

The meteorology specialist predicts that the tropical depression will gain strength on Saturday and generate rainfall in almost the entire national territory, mainly in the area of Managua, Rivas, León, Chinandega and the entire northern part of the country.
Likewise, he urged the Nicaraguan population to take the corresponding precautions against the damage that the rains may cause, such as flooding, landslides and flooding.
The director of Ofena also warned about a storm surge with waves greater than 4 meters in height expected for the Caribbean coast of Nicaragua and the islands of Corn Island and Little Corn Island, also for San Andrés and Providencia.
Currently, the cyclonic event is in the tropical depression phase and “has a parametric pressure between one thousand eleven millibars to one thousand nine millibars”, so if it continues to gain strength in its winds it can become a tropical storm, causing disasters and destruction. in coastal regions.
