Renovation of Line 1 of the Metro
53 years after its inauguration, in June 2022, 12 of the 20 stations on metro line one were closed to give rise to a total renovation of facilities, platforms, replacement of tracks, electrical wiring, signaling systems, communication and the purchase of 29 new trains to the Chinese company CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive.
The closure of the first section for its rehabilitation impacted the mobility of millions of users who use this means of transport daily, for which reason authorities implemented a passenger transfer operation through buses of the Passenger Transport Network, the line 4 of the metrobus and an express route of the Mexibus between Pantitlán and Balderas.
It is expected that in March 2023, the rehabilitated section will reopen and, subsequently, the second renovation phase will begin between the Balderas and Observatorio stations.
Expansion and renewal of Ecobici
After it was announced on December 29, 2021 that the BKT consortium and 5M2 (a subsidiary of Grupo Expansión) were the winners of the project to expand and renew the Ecobici system, as of June 2022 the transition between the previous and the new one formally began. new operator.
The challenge was to expand coverage from three to six municipalities in the capital, to reach Álvaro Obregón, Azcapotzalco and Coyoacán as of 2022, in addition to the demarcations in which it is already located: Benito Juárez, Cuauhtémoc and Miguel Hidalgo.
As well as covering 118 colonies, which in turn implies going from more than 6,000 to 9,480 latest-generation bicycles.
