He Undersecretary of State of the United States, Christopher Landau, He visited on Wednesday in Bogotá the tombs of his paternal grandparents, who arrived in the country from Austria before World War II.

“Today, for the first time in my life, I visited the tombs of my grandparents in Bogotá. As I have no family here, I feared that no one would have visited the graves in years, but they were well preserved. A very emotional day”said in his X account number two of the State Department, which attended the funeral of the senator and presidential candidate Miguel Uribay Turbay in the funeral capital.

The diplomat accompanied the publication with two photographs of Dr. Jakob A. Landau, who died in 1958, and Jeanette Landau, who died in 1974, without specifying in which of the old Jewish cemeteries of the city are buried.

“Colombia is a very special country for me, since it received my father when he left his native Austria in 1938. He managed to free his parents the following year and my paternal grandparents lived happy in Colombia the rest of their lives in Colombia,”he said.
Landau added that he never met his grandfather, who died before he was born, but sometimes saw his grandmother “OMI”who died when he was ten years old and never lived in the same country as her.

In Bogotá there is a Jewish field in a sector of the central cemetery where Uribe Turbay was buried today, of the right -wing party Democratic Center, which died last Monday, two months after being seriously injured in the head in an attack.
Another Jewish field of the city is the South Hebrew cemetery, located in the English neighborhood.
