Trinidad and Tobago investigates drone flights at airports with US military equipment

Trinidad y Tobago vuelo drones

According to the Trinidad and Tobago Defense statement, the operators of these drones seek to take images of military installations and equipment to publish them in global media, which is “detrimental” to national security interests.

The Ministry of Defense of Trinidad and Tobago warned that it will take “the necessary actions” against those drone operators who have flown over the country’s airports where there is a presence of US military and equipment.

These are the Piarco International Airport and the ANR Robinson airport, where a US radar has also been installed within the framework of the current escalation of tensions between Washington and Caracas.

According to the Defense statement, the operators of these drones seek to take images of military installations and equipment to publish them in global media, which is “detrimental” to national security interests.

Trinidad and Tobago also denounced that this is “a danger” for commercial aircraft arriving and departing from these airports and poses “a real possibility of collisions that can cause large-scale deaths.”

The Ministry is investigating to find out the identity of the people who flew these drones in violation of the law in order to “prevent further actions of this type, protect the public interest and guarantee the safety of passengers of all airlines.”

Finally, the note warned drone operators who defy the law that the State “will take necessary actions, including those permitted by the current state of emergency.”

In addition to the radar system installed on the island of Tobago, where Marines are still deployed, US military aircraft have permission to access the airports of the country, neighboring Venezuela.

Five days ago, the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, assured that the “best defense” for the country is its current military cooperation with the United States.

“I am not going to declare war on Venezuela, but I have a duty to protect the people of Trinidad and Tobago and, at this moment, this is the best defense mechanism we can have,” commented Persad-Bissessar.

Given this deployment, the Minister of the Interior of Venezuela, Diosdado Cabello, said last week on the program “Con el Mazo Dando” that, if Venezuela were attacked by the US, Persad-Bissessar should be “absolutely sure” of the consequences.
