Both legislators, who did not renew their seats in the October elections, said goodbye after decades of service.
Pasquet, representative of the Colorado Party, occupied his seat for the last time after previously announcing that he would not run in the elections. At 69 years old, the legislator highlighted the importance of giving way to new generations. During the session, he expressed: “Every time I arrive at the Legislative Palace, I arrive with joy and with a deep feeling of gratitude. I think it is a privilege to really work here, for the Republic, for Uruguay.” Pasquet began his parliamentary career in 1985, upon the return of democracy, and since then he became a prominent figure in the national political arena.
For his part, Iván Posada, of the Independent Party, also closed a cycle that began in 1995. For two periods he represented the Nuevo Espacio before joining the Independent Party in 2005. In his farewell speech, he noted: “I think we have fulfilled our the task we had assigned. We try to do it fully. “We try to honor those who trusted us when we started in politics.” Posada evoked two references in his career: Hugo Batalla and Raúl Gadea, whom he recognized as fundamental figures in his career. He concluded with the phrase: “I’m not leaving, I’m always coming back.”
The tributes to both legislators transcended party borders, with interventions by deputies from all parties who recognized their commitment and legacy.
