Tribute to Celia Cruz with a star at the Cuban Art Factory

The Cuban Art Factory (FAC) unveiled this Tuesday a star in honor of the centenary of Celia Cruzin a gesture that seeks to recognize the legacy and indelible mark of the artist on Cuban music and culture.

The tribute, presented as a tribute to the talent and influence of the “Queen of Salsa”, is part of the FAC Constellation project, which celebrates the most relevant figures of national art and culture.

Celia’s star thus joins those of Benny Moré, Juan Formell and Chucho Valdés, among other big nameslocated in Nave 4 of the cultural venue.

“This tribute has the sole purpose of paying tribute to an artist who has left an indelible mark on our music. Let us celebrate her legacy and her contribution to Cuban art, reaffirming her place in the hearts of all Cubans,” FAC said in its official message.

“Long live the Queen of Salsa!” concludes the FAC message, celebrating Celia Cruz and her centenary.

Tribute from Fábrica de Arte Cubano and official censorship

The tribute comes a few days after the cancellation of the show Celia, a production by Teatro El Público that was to be presented last Sunday in the cultural space itself, became known.

The suspension was announced last Thursday by the National Center for Popular Music, an entity that did not offer more details about the reasons for the decision.

FAC then responded on its social networks with a phrase that quickly went viral: “A work of art that was not, an armchair, silence and the art of resistance”.

The work had been announced in advance and generated great expectations among the public, especially among followers of Celia Cruz’s legacy.

The “FAC Constellation” currently has 21 stars dedicated to personalities such as Alicia Alonso, Wifredo Lam, Alberto Korda, Dulce María Loynaz, Leo Brouwer, Eusebio Leal, Humberto Solás and Santiago Feliú, among others.

Last June, the institution had unveiled a star in honor of Ramiro Guerra, considered the master of modern dance in Cuba, reaffirming the commitment of the cultural space founded by X Alfonso with the promotion and recognition of Cuban art in all its manifestations.
