Trials 11J: police admit that there were shots during the demonstrations

MIAMI, United States. — This Wednesday, the first day of the trial against 15 protesters of the anti-government protests on July 11 and 12 (July 11) in the capital, who face prosecution requests of up to 13 years in prison, took place in Havana.

As he told Radio Television Martí Orlando Ramírez, stepfather of the protester Jonathan Torres Farratduring the first day of the oral hearing, an officer of the National Revolutionary Police (PNR) —whose identity is unknown— assured that he heard shots in the protests that took place in the municipality of Diez de Octubre.

Ramírez, who was present at the trial, told this outlet that the PNR officer accepted that he did not have weapons, but that he heard shots in the demonstrations.

“They asked him if he knew who had a gun and he said he didn’t know, nor could he be aware of who had a gun or not, only that the order he had was not to use weapons,” Farrat’s stepfather said.

The protesters charged in the trial are Maykel Arnaldo Reyes Álvarez, Andro Ledesma Prieto, Omar Bravo Cruzata, Luis Daniel Carrillo Urquiola, Kevin Lázaro Pimentel Oduardo, Dayana Camejo Ramos, Kevin Edward Charles Matos, Ernesto Briera Sempé, Hansel Felipe Arbolay Prim, Manuel de Jesús Rodríguez Santiesteban, Alejandro Flores Rubio, Yuniel Blanco Jiménez, Richard Jorge Hierrezuelo, Rudyels Ulloa López and Jonathan Torres Farrat. In the case of the latter, he faced a prosecution request of years in prison.

The report of Radio and Television Martí It adds that activist Bárbara Farrat Guillén, Jonathan’s mother, was also present at the oral hearing, but refused to testify before the judicial authorities.

“They asked me nothing more than my name, my last name and how old I was and if I knew any accused. I told them that I was the mother of Jonathan Torres Farrat and that I refrained from testifying,” the woman explained.
