Today begins the oral trial against Felipe Rojas Lobosaccused by the North Central Prosecutor’s Office of rape with homicide, abortion, illegal burial and theft to the detriment of fernanda maciel. A crowd gathered at a vigil on the eve of the trial to demand justice for the victim.
The Prosecutor’s Office will present 58 witnesses and 41 experts, in addition to documents and material evidence to prove the responsibility of Rojas in the crimes committed on February 10, 2018.
Fernanda Maciel, a 21-year-old girl who was seven months pregnant, disappeared that day. The investigation, carried out by the Carabineros and Investigative Police, revealed that she Maciel had been invited by Rojas to a warehouse in Conchalí, where she worked, and that there she was raped and murdered by the defendant. According to the prosecutor in the case, Rojas took advantage of the relationship of trust that he had with Maciel to commit the crimes.
The remains of Fernanda Maciel were found in June 2019 buried in the same warehouse where the crime occurred. Rojas had stolen her cell phone and sold it at the Zapadores Persian.
The Public Ministry requests the sentence of qualified life imprisonment, the highest in Chilean legislation, for Rojas in this trial.
