In the last session, prosecutor José Domingo Pérez, part of the Lava Jato special team, asked the Judiciary to have the former Attorney General, Patricia Benavides, testify as a witness in the criminal proceedings.

The purpose, according to the prosecutor, is to demonstrate the existence of alleged acts of interference in the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which are ordered by the alleged criminal organization led by Keiko Fujimori, entrenched in the Fuerza Popular party.
He said that Benavides will have to expose the alleged “instrumentalization” of the Fujimori party’s representation for purposes of criminal organization, with the objective of achieving “impunity and affecting the course of investigations.”
It should be remembered that the Lava Jato special team has requested 30 years and 10 months in prison for Keiko Fujimori, accusing her of having carried out, together with other former leaders of Fuerza Popular, acts of money laundering to hide contributions from Odebrecht to her presidential campaigns in 2011 and 2016.
