The young sagüero was accused of the alleged crime of “propaganda against the constitutional order.”

HAVANA, Cuba. – Last Friday, December 5, the trial against constitutionalist activist Alexander Peraza García was concluded for sentencing, according to what he himself announced in a telephone conversation with CubaNet the following Monday.

The political prisoner, who is being held in La Pendiente prison, in Santa Clara, stated that the oral hearing was held in the Chamber of Crimes Against State Security of the Popular Provincial Court of Villa Clara (known as “The Court”).

Although the hearing began on November 25, it had to be postponed due to the absence of the State Security agent who was to appear as the only witness for the Prosecutor’s Office, Peraza García himself indicated.

However, the uniformed officer did not attend on this second occasion either, but rather gave a statement via telephone. To do this, the prisoner stressed, it took four hours to establish the call, the quality of which made it practically impossible to understand.

As for the prosecutor, Peraza García pointed out, he barely spoke. However, he considers that due to the actions of the parties, the sentence of 10 years of deprivation of liberty for the alleged crime of “propaganda against the constitutional order” will be ratified.

Alexander Peraza García, 29 years old, is a resident of the municipality of Sagua the Greatlocated in the Villa Clara province. He was imprisoned on December 23, 2024 in retaliation for spreading various news on his social networks about the situation in his municipality of residence, as well as for publicizing a series of articles of the 1940 Constitution related to human rights.

He was arrested at his home after a thorough search carried out by State Security agents, who confiscated his work tools (laptop and mobile phone), as well as printed and digital material related to that historical document whose democratic principles Peraza García is a promoter.

Likewise, on several occasions he has been a victim of government repression due to other civic activities, such as organizing peaceful protests demanding electricity supply and other basic services, the lack of which currently affects tens of thousands of Cubans.

Peraza García appears registered as a political prisoner on the official website of the non-governmental human rights defense organization Prisoners Defenders.
