This 2022 has been a year of strong seismic activity in Latin America and North America, one of the most recent and serious, the earthquake in Mexico, has also occurred in Ecuador, Peru and Colombia. The tremors have been increasing.
International News
In recent weeks South America, North America have recorded more than 100 earthquakes with different scales, tsmall gusts below magnitude 2.0 that people do not normally feel but that generate early warnings in geological institutions, and some that have exceeded magnitude 4 and 5.
This unpredictable natural phenomenon has been in the news, in less than a week Colombia has registered earthquakes that add to what happened in Mexico, Ecuador and even Taiwan, has led to many conjectures.
Many associate this activity with the so-called Ring of Fire, or Pacific Ring of Fire.
This is a chain of tectonic plates, a subduction zone that surrounds the Pacific Ocean.
- About 90% of earthquakes occur at that point, an area of about 40,000 km: from the Andes, the west coast of Mexico and the United States to Japan.
However, experts consulted by CNN point out that the movement of a plate does not generate simultaneous earthquakes in all countries.
And that in addition, «the absence of movement indicates that energy is being accumulated and, if it happens for a prolonged period, this theoretically increases the chances that at a given moment there will be an earthquake of greater magnitude since the earthquake is, ultimately, a violent release of energy.
Namelyit worries more that there are no telluric movements, than that there are.
the earth moves
On September 19, the earthquake of magnitude 7.7 occurred in Mexico, that same day in Colombia a telluric movement of magnitude 5.0 was felt at 1:12 am with an epicenter in Los Santos, Santander.
Ecuador also registered an earthquake on September 30 on the border, the latter caused aftershocks in Putumayo and Nariño.
In this order of ideas, and due to its location, relief agencies in Colombia maintain permanent monitoring.
There have been earthquakes these days, according to reports from the Colombian Geological Service, one of them, early this Wednesday morning:

earthquake in Peru
In the early hours of this Wednesday, a telluric movement of 6.1 degrees occurred in the city of Sullana, in Piura, Peru.
The depth of the tremor was 25 km, the chief of citizen security of Sullana, reported that two injured people have been reported, who suffered falls while trying to leave their homes.
That country, like Colombia, is located in the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire, an area of extensive telluric activity that extends along the west coast of the American continent.
