Treasury disbursed another S/3,100 million to pay Petroperú debts

The waste of money in Petroperú is never ending. The Central Reserve Bank (BCR) reported that, in the last eight months, the Public Treasury disbursed S/3.1 billion. The money was destined exclusively to honor credit guarantees that the oil company has with the Banco de la Nación.

This new financial contribution adds to a long list of state interventions that seek to prevent the collapse of the oil company. According to the Minister of Economy, Denisse Miralles, the total amount of financial aid granted to the company in recent years already exceeds S/27,000 million.

Although the 2025 figure is less than the S/6.1 billion transferred in 2024 due to capitalization, support continues to be a determining factor in the country’s fiscal accounts, which represents a significant burden for the Public Treasury in a context in which the Executive is committed to bringing the fiscal deficit to 1% of GDP by 2028.

Reorganization

In parallel with the economic aid, Proinversión announced that, in line with the task of restructuring the oil company to reverse its structural crisis, it authorized the hiring of the international consulting firm Deloitte to lead this process.

The consultant and auditor will have the task of designing a detailed work plan under the framework of Emergency Decree No 010-2025.

“A firm from the Big Four group will be in charge of the Petroperú restructuring process. The initiative is serious,” said former Economy Minister David Tuesta.

The central objective is to organize the financial and operational structure to guarantee sustainability and fuel supply without resorting to privatization or liquidation.

Luis Del Carpio, executive president of Proinversión, emphasized that the selection responds to a rigorous technical evaluation. The process will seek evidence-based decision-making to restore the company’s viability, ensuring that labor rights will be respected while attempting to curb Petroperú’s dependence on state funds.
