Traveling abroad and to Mexico will be more expensive in 2026

Traveling abroad and to Mexico will be more expensive in 2026

The initiative proposes the collection of fees, for 294.01 pesos, for the issuance of the authorization form to leave the country for girls, boys, adolescents and people under legal guardianship.

This charge is established as an instrument of fiscal policy to recover the costs of this service provided by the State, through the National Migration Institute (INM), which is exhaustive, as it involves the exhaustive analysis of data and documents presented by the interested parties, as well as the information validation by consulting various databases to confirm that there are no inconsistencies before issuing the authorization.

The main reasons, from the perspective of the protection of rights, are the protection of children, prevention of illegal extraction, as well as reinforcing the security mechanism to provide certainty to family members and minors that their trip will culminate with the planned itinerary, highlights the Treasury in the LFD proposal.

Foreigners will pay more to enter the country

Following the objective of increasing the money that reaches public coffers, an adjustment of 14.2% is also proposed to the fee for obtaining the document that certifies the status of Visitor without permission to carry out remunerated activities. If approved, this will go from 860.56 pesos to 983 pesos.

The Treasury justifies this adjustment by the need to reflect the real cost of providing the service for the State, in a context of increased tourist flow and to strengthen the operational capabilities of the INM, including adequate infrastructure, advanced verification technologies and trained personnel.

Residences for foreigners doubled

It is also proposed for foreigners to double the fee for the rights corresponding to obtaining the document that certifies the status of temporary resident stay (in all its modalities) and permanent resident.

If these changes are approved, the fee for one year will rise from 5,328.46 to 11,140.74, and that for up to four years from 11,984.80 pesos to 25,057.82 pesos. While that of a permanent resident would remain at 13,578.86 pesos from 6,494.62 pesos.

It should be noted that it incorporates a 50% discount in the quotas for temporary and permanent residents who prove that their stay is due to the preservation of the family unit, offer of national employment, or invitation from a public or private organization to carry out activities without receiving income.

Tickets for museums, sites and archaeological zones go up

The Treasury also proposes increases in fees for access to monuments, sites and archaeological zones, of categories I, II and III.

For category I areas, which includes sites such as the archaeological zone of Palenque and its museum, it goes from 95.58 to 209.09 pesos. For category II sites such as the El Carmen Museum; Historical Museum of Acapulco Fort of San Diego, and Archaeological Zone of Malinalco, from 78.71 to 156.75 pesos. And for those in category III such as the Regional Historical Museum of Aguascalientes; Museum of the Jesuit Missions; Chicanná Archaeological Zone, and Xpuhil Archaeological Zone, goes from 73.09 to 143.69 pesos.

In addition, Category IV is created to include sites with potential for great influence such as Chichén Itzá, Uxmal and Dzibilchaltún/Museum of the Maya People. For this, the fee will be 104.50 pesos per access.

Discounts and free access

However, a reduction to these rights to nationals and foreign residents in the sites of categories I (50%), II (45%) and III (45%).

It is also proposed that free access to the National Museum of Architecture in the Palace of Fine Arts, following the objective of promoting access to culture.
