Colfecar warning that blockages, driver murders and lack of security resources have affected the guild.
During the Congress of Colfecar 2025, the president of Colfecar, Nidia Hernández, warned that the insecurity on the country’s roads has intensified in recent years and that transporters fear going to work, amid driver murders, armed stoppages and extortion.
“We are living a wave of insecurity that is not allowing traffic 24 hours in certain departments of the country, such as Norte de Santander, Chocó and Cauca,” said Hernández. According to the Colombian Association of Truckers, there are already more than 30 drivers killed in the last two years, a situation that the leader qualifies as unpublished in a long time.

Millionaire blocks and losses
Between January and August of this year, the transport sector has faced 624 blocks in the tracks, which has generated losses for 1.7 billion pesos. To this are added vial closures due to landslides and natural disasters, especially on the road to the plain.
“The plain road has more than 96 critical points and we have not seen a structural plan by the government. The only thing that has been raised are partial solutions, such as enabling rural routes in one sense,” said Hernández.
Budget for security
The president of Colfecar said that the resources that transporters contribute through tolls for the road safety program are not fully arriving at the Armed Forces.
“Of the 175 billion that should be turned, 50 thousand are barely arriving. That silver does not come from the State, we pay it, all toll users. The problem is that it is not being allocated in its entirety to the safety on the roads,” he said.

Extortion and control of armed groups
In departments such as Chocó, transporters have been subjected to armed strikes that prevent cargo mobility and passengers. “We are having extorted entrepreneurs and areas of the country where neither the police nor the army enter to give us help,” he said.
Hernández said that, although he recognizes the effort of the Armed Forces, the bilateral cessations agreed by the Government within the framework of the peace process have ended up strengthening armed groups. “What has done is give them more control of the territory,” he said.
Broken companies
Another effect of the crisis is the closure of companies. Hernández confirmed that 174 companies in the sector have broken in the last year.
“They are drowning with high cost overruns, with taxes, and they are not even guaranteeing us the minimum to be able to work. Thus it is impossible to sustain themselves,” he warned.
The leader announced that during the Congress of Colfecar she will present a report with the complete panorama of the sector and the measures she considers urgent to face the situation.
