Transporters join farmers in protest against the reform of the Water Law

He insisted that the alliance between transporters and farmers will remain firm, particularly on issues such as access to water, which he described as a problem “that not only affects farmers and transporters, but everyone.” He added that both sectors maintain a national alert waiting for the agreements to be fulfilled.

Regarding the most relevant commitments reached so far, Estévez highlighted the progress with the SICT, including the regularization of licenses, security measures and the closure of irregular centers for issuing permits and spaces known as “hookahs.” He pointed out that the agency has a deadline of December 31 to complete part of the actions.

He indicated that ANTAC has not yet published the document signed with the government because some actors can use it to misinform or extort the union. “We do not want what was agreed to be misused or distorted,” he said.

He reiterated that the key point will be the meeting on December 8, in which it will be evaluated whether the government complied with the established commitments. Likewise, he assured that he will keep the members of the union and the citizens informed about any progress.

Meanwhile, the National Front for the Rescue of the Mexican Countryside (FNRCM) reported this Tuesday that representatives of the organization went to the Chamber of Deputies to analyze the initiative to reform the Water Law and ensure that it is adequate and favorable for rural producers.

Through social networks, the FNRCM also reported that the Puevetlax alliance – which includes agricultural producers from Puebla, Veracruz and Tlaxcala – began a broad mobilization this Tuesday in defense of water, due to fear that the reform will advance to the detriment of the agricultural sector.

It was detailed that the alliance’s tour began at 5 in the morning in Perote, Veracruz, from where they left for a series of previously agreed points to add contingents on their way to Mexico City.

The first meeting was in Alchichica Lagoon at 6:00 a.m.; then at the San Luis Atexcac gas station at 6:30 a.m.; the Zacatepec gas station at 7:30 a.m. and the Cuapiaxtla gas station at 9:30 a.m.

At half-day, the contingent is expected to meet at the Libramiento Huamantla (FercheGas) gas station at 11:00 a.m. and later they would head towards Libramiento Apizaco, at the junction with the Tlaxcala highway.

Later they will stop at the gas station at the entrance to Calpulalpan at 4:00 p.m., and then go to the toll booth on the Peñón–Texcoco highway at 7:00 p.m., before moving on to the Chamber of Deputies, a point considered as the final destination in case the reform is not modified.

The last operational stop will be Apizaco, where they will remain waiting for news about the legislative process. The organizers indicated that their presence in Congress will depend on the direction in which the reform advances and warned that, if necessary, the mobilization will continue until it is guaranteed that the rights of the agricultural sector will not be violated.
